How many of you can say your mom let you have Doughnuts for breakfast? Mine did! Are you jealous? You should be they were amazing! But now you can have them too with our mini chocolate breakfast doughnuts recipe.
Thanks to a lazy Saturday at home, a new doughnut maker press, and the kids wanting to learn how to cook, I just made a Chocolate Donuts Recipe this last weekend with my kids. And let me tell you, they were singing my praising!
“My mom is the best! My mom is amazing! My mom gave us Doughnuts for Breakfast! Oh MOM! These are amazing!”
Mini Chocolate Donuts Recipe
I lost track of how many times my kids told me these chocolate breakfast doughnuts were amazing. It was a fantastic weekend! And full of fun because I had the kids right there with me learning to cook. It is one of the tasks they have expressed more desire to learn.
Mini Chocolate Donuts Recipe

- Lightly sprinkle with Powdered sugar
- Makes approximately 6 dozen small doughnuts or approximately 12 dozen Mini doughnuts
The magic behind this Mini Chocolate Donuts Recipe is that they are a fun recipe that can be baked as waffles or doughnuts. But the Mini doughnuts are more fun for kids, so go right ahead and do it!
Plus the best part is they store well! You can bake up a lot of these on Saturday and have Mini donuts ready in an air tight container for the week of quick and easy School mornings! Well, that is if your kids don’t raid the container and eat them all first. (Yeah, my kids didn’t leave me any to pack up for school mornings the next week.)
The secret behind the healthy chocolate flavor is using a fraction of the sugar the original recipe called for and replacing it with a small amount of Nesquik chocolate mix!
When I was a kid Nesquik was a common staple in our pantry. All the kids loved Chocolate milk. And my Mom would let me have Nesquik chocolate milk every meal! Probably because it was the only way she could get me to drink milk as I was such a picky child– SORRY MOM!
Now as a mom myself I find myself with the same preference for chocolate milk mixes. I also give my kids Nesquik chocolate mix. Nesquik offers 7 essential vitamins and minerals, 45% less sugar than the leading syrup brand and has no artificial colors and flavors! So I can feel good about allowing my kids to have a treat now and then with their breakfast.
See how Nesquik Makes Breakfast better!
That is also why I feel it is a great way to flavor these breakfast doughnuts! With less sugar, and no artificial colors or dyes, I can give my kids a great Chocolate Donut that tastes amazing. It really does add to the flavor! Pair it with fresh fruit and you have a great breakfast for a fun filled Saturday!
My kids have all wanted to learn how to cook more. So I figured why not take a lazy Saturday Morning and stir their imagination with the possibilities of learning to make something they can really enjoy!
I dusted off my mom’s Chocolate Donuts Recipe and made a few changes to better fit our family. Then I got Miss Jade to be the little Chef! She always is playing in the kitchen and asking to help mix the food. So why not let her be in charge?
This is the perfect recipe to let your kids be involved and learn how to cook. The younger ones can help you measure, dump and mix. Just like my Miss Jade. Check out that video below and you will see her being our baker!
Then after the batter is all mixed together the older kids can learn how to work the doughnut maker (or waffle maker if you would prefer waffles instead of doughnuts. Really they taste the same, just the shape is different.)
Once all the mini Chocolate Donuts Recipe are baked then it is time to enjoy the fruits of our labor!
The kids couldn’t believe how easy this Chocolate Donuts Recipe is to make. And they want to make them again next Saturday! Because really, what kid wouldn’t want doughnuts for breakfast? And they are even more fun when they can help make them!
