I’m sharing this Winter Cold Survival Kit with Zicam® as part of a sponsored series with Socialstars, all opinions are my own.
Well, it’s happened. The kids brought home that nasty cold virus that’s been going around the School. The same one that I have been trying to avoid all school year long. But I finally succumbed around Thanksgiving. What a horrible time to be sick!
I didn’t want to be sick. Nor did I have time to be sick! So I tossed together a quick and effective Winter Cold Survival Kit to get me through the storm and get back on my feet so I could enjoy visiting family over the holiday.
So if you are sick, or if you have a dear friend who is sick; putting together a winter cold survival kit will really make those nasty days feel a little better.
If nothing else, at least your friend will know you are thinking of them and feel ever grateful for the help in combating that nasty winter cold virus!
So here are some ideas of the best things to include in a thoughtful Winter Cold Survival Kit!
Winter Cold Survival Kit Essentials
Inside a winter cold survival kit, you will find all the essentials you need to shorten a cold and make yourself or some other cold victim feel better and get back on their feet faster.
This isn’t an all-inclusive list, but a great list of ideas to get you started. Of course, you will want to personalize it for whomever the recipient is. If I’m making one for a dear friend I’ll add in a few items that are special just for her. Or for the husband, I’ll add in a few things that are unique to him. But this is a great starting point to get your brainstorming juices flowing.
1: Water/Juice: it’s essential that you stay hydrated while you are sick. So make sure you have some liquid to help make it through.
2: Citrus Fruits: Lemon is a fabulous ingredient for sore throat remedies. So it is always good to include at least one Lemon. Likewise, oranges have a great option to boost vitamin C. Plus they just taste great, even when you are sick. It’s a great way to get in extra crucial cold busting vitamins, and it also helps to soothe sore throats.
3: Honey: Honey is another that is known to boost the immune system and soothe sore throats. I always try to include a little bear of local raw honey.
4: Herbal Tea: Nothing beats curling up with a warm mug of herbal tea when you are sick the herbs help to boost your immune system, and the warmth soothes your body from the inside out. It also soothes a sore throat and the heat can help clear out sinus passages.
5: Soup & Crackers: if you have time, make a great homemade creamy chicken noodle soup. This is the perfect ideal addition to fighting off a cold. it gives the nutrition you need when you don’t feel like eating anything. And the warmth just gives that measure of comfort. Pair it with some crackers and you are golden.
If you can’t make a homemade chicken noodle soup, even just grabbing a can of soup can really help. No one feels up to cooking when they are sick. So you are helping to take care of feeding the family and making sure the winter cold victim gets fed as well.
6: Tissues: This is rather obvious. Winter colds always make you go through tissues faster than you can sneeze! With a runny nose or stuffed nose, you need tissues.
7: Epsom Salt bath soak: when you are sick, it is the best time to indulge in a luxurious bath. The heat helps to soothe any aches and pains. And the humidity helps to moisturize and clear out your sinus passages. Using Epsom bath Salts helps to detox your body and soothe aching muscles. It’s also great if you have a nasty winter cold headache.
8: Hand Sanitizer: Because you don’t want that nasty winter cold virus to spread to anyone else.
9: Book: nothing is worse than being sick and being bored. So Include something to help entertain. Either a book or an enjoyable movie.
10: Zicam® Cold Remedy: This is my secret weapon for every Winter cold survival kit I create. Zicam® Cold Remedy Medicated Fruit Drops are clinically proven to shorten the length of a cold when taken at the first sign.

Lastly, personalize the Winter cold survival kit for the recipient. For my husband that would be a sparkling water, since he prefers to not eat sugar.
For a close girlfriend, I would probably add some lip gloss, hand lotion and possibly an immune boosting essential oil or a brilliant smelling candle.
Wrap it all up in a gift bag, or cute basket and deliver.
