Fry Sauce Recipe, the Western States Secret dipping sauce is revealed
Growing up in Wyoming and living in Idaho, it stands to reason our family is rather expert on the whole Western Fry Sauce. If you haven’t visited the western states of Idaho, Wyoming or Utah you are missing out! Almost every food joint offers the unique fry sauce. Now if you have visited and tasted this amazing fry sauce, you know how disappointing it is to go back home and not have any! So I’m sharing with you the secret for some amazing western fry sauce! Really, we can’t have fries or chicken nuggets without it! It is that popular in this house.
Western Fry Sauce Recipe: the secret is revealed
It requires two main ingredients and one secret ingredient you never would have thought.
- 1/3 cup Ketchup
- 2/3 Cup Mayonnaise
- 2-4 teaspoons Pickle Juice (yeah, that’s the secret. Surprised?)
You simply mix the ketchup and mayo together until a smooth pink color. Then add in the pickle juice one teaspoon at a time until you have the perfect flavor. I used about 3 teaspoons of my homemade pickle juice. Yes, I can my own pickles. So if you use store purchased hamburger/Dill pickles it might be a little different. So be sure to just add one teaspoon at a time until you reach the flavor you like the most for your fry sauce.
Fry sauce is a delicious dipping sauce. It can be used for dipping chicken nuggets, fries, corn dogs and any of that kid friendly food. It is also delicious on hamburgers as a secret sauce.

What would you dip in our Western Fry Sauce?
I feel like I’ve had this before but don’t know where! By the ingredients I would say I’m not sure about trying it, but then I’m thinking it would probably be pretty good!
My hubby always eats mayo and ketchup on fries and it always grosses me out! Now our girls are starting to do it also! I will try this recipe and see if they like it!! Thanks!
I’ve never had this before, but it looks good!
Huh, I would have never thought to add pickle juice. I’m going to give that a try. Thanks!
Yummy! I love this kind of sauce, but never knew how to make it! Thanks for the recipe!
Interesting – I’ve never heard of this before! But I’m sure my girls would love to dip their chicken nuggets in it! I might just try making this at home…after all, we have all the ingredients (I love simple recipes!).
Oh, this is something my husband would love! I need to make it!
Probably everything! My mom would love this dipping sauce, I’ll have to make it for her soon!

I know the other half would love this, thanks for sharing!
I used to make something very similar to this sauce a few years back. It was the same sans the pickle juice.
It’s like Russian dressing, or Thousand Island dressing without the “islands.” This is popular in Oregon, too.
I didn’t realize that pickle juice was the secret! Awesome recipe!
If it’s Friday (because it’s the end of the working week) – anything goes!
I’m thinking some homemade zucchini fries would be awesome with this!!
Oh Ronni! Fried zucchini sounds delicious with this fry sauce!
Oh my GOSH, I canneverever let my children find out about this. There would be a demand vs supply war in our household, and I am the supplier. Then again, I could make it for family events with my extended family and just keep this lil secret to myself. Hmmmm….I am sure they could think of lots of things to dip it in, from french fries to fried pickles. Hey – my mom cans pickles too! We may be doing our own at the end of this growing season as well.
Oh fried pickles are really good in this too! Try it! :-).
Those looks so good.
ummmm please excuse me while I go scan my fridge for pickles… there goes my weight loss success!! yummm!
I pinned, this sounds like something my daughter would LOVE. Now I really want to know your homemade pickle juice recipe!!
