Cupcake Decorating Tips, Cupcake Delights
I LOVE cupcakes. I love how cute they are, how simple they can be, or how complex you can make them. They are an all around, good for all occasions, wonderful creations. That’s why I started my own Cupcake shop; Simply CelesteJewel Cupcakes. Get the pun? With Halloween coming up, there are a million things you can do to a simple cupcake to make it into a monster, witch, ghost, or anything else your imagination can come up with. Here are a few cupcake decorating tips that you can use to make delicious sweet little jewels.
Easy Cupcake Decorating Ideas
I started with a simple recipe for chocolate, or white cake- I did a wedding this weekend, and couldn’t choose, so I did both flavors. Some days you’ll feel more ambitious than others, and will make everything by scratch, and some times you’ll just want to open a box and dump it in. Both are perfectly fine and delicious. After baking it is really easy to just leave them, but I went a step further and decided to fill them.
I bought a cupcake corer to pull out the pieces from the center and make room for the cream filling, but it works just as well to grab a knife and cut a circle at a 45 degree angle.
I grabbed a pastry bag and cut the tip off to fill it with some pastry cream, and put a dab into each cupcake. They looked so sweet and yummy at that point that I didn’t even mind if I didn’t frost them at that point. But I frosted them anyway. I used a really light frosting for these cupcakes, basically a stable whip cream to hold shape when I pipe it out. I think frosting the cupcakes is my favorite part of making them. Unless you count eating them, that definitely comes first.
One of the easiest ways to frost cupcakes would be to pick a tip, star or circle shape, they both make very cute cupcakes. Put the tip into a frosting bag, and just have fun. I think some of the best tips that I was given to make these cupcakes look good would be to have equal pressure throughout the whole time. Start at the edge, and make a swirl toward the middle. Too much frosting doesn’t mean better cupcake. The bigger the tip you’re frosting with, the faster you can go.
If you want to spice it up a little, add some sprinkles, or drizzle something over the top. Little things can make a huge difference. Spider’s can be made with licorice for legs, add some black dots for eyes and a mouth to make a ghost, turn it into a witch’s hat with some flat cookies (I like striped shortbread ones turned upside down) and put the frosting on top of that to make the pointy top. Your imagination is your limit, and if that fails, you can always check out Pinterest to get some new ideas. Happy Baking!
A really easy, yet tasty frosting can be made with vanilla pudding mix and heavy cream. Just whip it up and slather it on. It will taste like heaven.
I am a total novice at decorating cupcakes. You make it look so easy!
Yum – those look so delicious!!
My mouth is watering! These cup cakes look delicious! This is not something I normally bake but I’m def gonna try this one out!
Oh they are mouth watering Cindy! I got to taste these little Cupcake Delights that Celeste made for the wedding. Oh man, they just melted in my mouth! They were scrumptious!
I let my daughter decorate our cupcakes but I would love to start trying out new ways to decorate like using the gadgets you mentioned!
If youre a beginner, go abstract, drizle melted chocolate on parchment paper and break it into chunka foer cupcake toppers.
Thank you for the tips… Cupcake decorating is definitely not my strong area… I need to get one of the icing decorators to make it easier on me!
I love cupcakes but can never get them to look good if I bake them myself. Thanks for these tips. Will have to try again now!
They look amazing – thank you so much for sharing these tips I would have an idea where to start 🙂 x
You are really good at that! I’m going to try filling some cupcakes, soon!
I bake brownies and cookies instead of cakes and cupcakes mostly because they don’t need icing. I never get that right. Yours looks amazing.
I need so much help in this area LOL These look fab!
Yours came out great. I’ve attempted to make pretty cupcakes a couple of times, but I haven’t really gotten the hang of it yet. My teen daughter can do amazing things with her decorating. 🙂
Oh my gosh!! You filled those too. They really turned out super nice. Now I will have to go find something sweet for me to eat since you made me hungry. The problem is…. I can’t eat sugar and have to settle for unsweetened carob chips or something.
I don’t cook well (my hubby does) but I am known for my baking. I have been working on my cupcake icing skills for a while and always appreciate new tips and tricks. 🙂
Great tips! Your cupcakes look delicious!
I’ve never decorated a cup cake but I think I can pull that off! Great tips
Yummy! I still have yet to invest in a pastry bag, I’m using the ends of ziplocs for now (probably because I don’t bake much). Love the frosting tips though, for when I do!
I like the way you presented and gave tips on how to do filling on cupcakes here. I am on cake decorating course and next week we’re going to decorate cupcakes. I can’t wait to share what I learned in my blog soon 😀
I was never really good at decorating cupcakes, but you make it look effortlessly easy! 🙂
My daughter loves watching Cupcake Wars and has been trying to recreate some of their cupcakes at home. She will appreciate these tips. Thanks for sharing them.
We love watching Cupcake Wars Too!! Isn’t that just such a fun show? lol.
Our cupcakes never last long enough for them to be pretty so I just smear on the frosting. LOL BUT If I’m taking them somewhere I ‘doll’ them up.
These look so pretty, Amber! I am slowly learning to decorate things. I need to get a cupcake corer!
I am a total novice and always wanted to know how to do it! Thanks so much!
I will have to try to find a corer. I would love to try to make filled cupcakes. Your tips are very helpful.
I love baking, so I also love this post! I totally agree that overdoing it on the frosting is not a good idea. In my opinion, it should be there as more of a garnish and should complement rather than cover the taste of the cake. Your cupcakes are so pretty!
Yum! How about you bring some of that chocolate perfection to my place. 😛 I wish I was blessed with baking skill but unfortunately for me I suck. lol. Those looks delish though.
Yum, they are looking great.
What do you do with what you removed from the center ?
Whoa! I have never seen a cupcake corer in action before! That is sooo coool! Those look totally and deliciously amazing!
I need to buy one of these designing kits for my daughter. She loves baking cupcakes and always take them to school for her friends. She’s the cupcake queen.
I love eating them but I have never made a cupcake ever! This tempts me though!
No matter how hard I try my cupcakes always look like a 2 year old did them.
I am just so hungry right now and you are not helping – LOL
OMG this is literally mouthwatering. Gotta make some this weekend!
I loveeeeeeee cupcakes! Awesome tips 🙂 I never bake them myself but if I do, I must remember these tips 😉
cool! very yummy ideas!
I have never heard of a cupcake corer! I need to run out and get one now – my favorite part of a cupcake is the icing!

Wow that is easy!
those look great 😀 i totally need to make tiny cupcakes sometime and throw a tea party 😉 always wanted to do that~
These look scrumptious!!!! I love cupcakes and thank you for the tips on filling them.
Those looks absolutely delicious and I am almost tempted to go ahead right now a bake a batch.
These are some great tips. Cupcakes are so delicious but half of their fun is how they are decorated. I am definitely going to try some of these techniques.
Thanks for the idea! My kids loved cupcakes.
Stop. this is making me sooooo wanting a cupcake! haha I had never seen anyone pull out the middle and insert a different flavor. yummmmmm perfect idea
This is awesome, you make it look so simple. I want to master this so I can bring in cupcakes to my son’s class that I can be proud to say I made.
I think that what you said was actually very logical.
But, think about this, what if you added a
little content? I ain’t saying your content isn’t
solid., but what if you added a title that grabbed
people’s attention? I mean Cupcake Decorating Tips, Cupcake Delights is a little
vanilla. You could peek at Yahoo’s home page and watch how they create news headlines to grab people interested.
You might try adding a video or a related picture or two to grab people interested about everything’ve got to
say. In my opinion, it might bring your blog a little livelier.
Magnificent goods from you, man. I have understand your stuff previous to and you’re
just too great. I really like what you have acquired here, certainly like what
you are saying and the way in which you say it.
You make it entertaining and you still care for to
keep it smart. I can’t wait to read much more from
you. This is really a wonderful site.
Great post. I will be going through a few of these issues
as well..
