Back to School Gift, A simple DIY Teacher gift for Back to School

Back to School Gift, A simple DIY Teacher gift for Back to School

School is almost starting for us here. We have just a few more days until the first day of school. I know many of you have already started school. But even so, it’s not too late to create this super easy and cute back to school teacher gift! And let me tell you, your teachers are going to love you for it!

Often times they have to supply some of these basic school supplies for their classroom right out of their own paycheck. Which is quite outrageous because they don’t get paid enough as it is! So I figure we can take a few bucks now while the school supplies are so cheap to spend less than $10 to really help our teachers out in the long run.

So I came up with this fun idea for a teachers desk school supply pail. They make the best back to school gift for teachers!

Supplies for back to school gift

For supplies you will need the following

  • small pail- found at Walmart for $1
  • 1 roll Duck Tape in your favorite print
  • 2 packages pencils
  • 2 packages of the 4 pack White board markers
  • 1 package colored pencils
  • Back to school Printables
  • double sided tape

To begin you simply cover the pail in duck tape. I thought originally of simply going around the pail horizontally. But this didn’t work as it is smaller at the base than the top. The Duck tape would not lay flat and caused a lot of issues with getting it to look nice. So I simply went strip by strip vertically. Sort of like wall paper. If your Duck tape will allow, see if you can get the pattern to line up well from row to row.

The pattern of duck tape I used did not line up no matter what I tried. Poor choice on my part. But I just loved the pattern. But it still works.

Once the pail is covered then simply fill the pail with the school supplies you purchased. Arrange them so they look nice. Then select three pencils from the pail to be the “stick” for the back to school printables.

Now these printables were made by my friend Angela from About A Mom blog. She said I could use them in my craft. So make sure you visit and thank her! They are just so darn cute! They are actually cupcake toppers, but they work perfectly here! I printed off the page of the cupcake toppers and cut out three pairs.

Then simply using the double sided tape, taped the toppers onto the top of the pencils. You can attach just on one side of the pencil or on both. But I like the look of both sides with the same topper so I did both sides.

With three pencils with new back to school toppers attached, replace them into the buckets. You can then leave them as they are, or attach labels to address the teacher and let them know whom the gift is from.

Now the final touch….hide some chocolate inside! Seriously, after the first week of school with the kids learning to get back into the swing of things, your poor teachers are going to need it!

And that is it! See, I told you it was super simple. Yet your kid’s teachers are going to love it!
