Easy Buttermilk Pancakes Recipe; From Scratch!
One of our favorite breakfasts is pancakes! And the most popular pancake is buttermilk pancake recipe! But who has time to make the old fashioned buttermilk pancakes? We’re busy moms! So I resorted to using pancake mixes from boxes. Yet we were always let down because the flavor and taste just was no comparison! So we have since converted back to using this simple yet oh so delicious old fashioned yet easy buttermilk pancake recipe! It’s made from scratch, but really doesn’t take much more time than our box pancake mix recipes would take to mix up! And yet the flavor is far superior; more cost effective, and it’s not loaded with crazy chemicals and preservatives! And did I mention it tastes much better? In an experiment, we got a small pancake mix and mixed it up on day. The next day we mixed up this pancake recipe. The kids were quite vocal that they preferred this pancake more! And they weren’t the only ones! The husband and I both love this recipe much more. So let’s get down to the recipe!
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 3 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 1/4 cup buttermilk (if you don’t have buttermilk you can use regular milk but it won’t be as thick.)
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
Directions: Mix all ingredients together. See, I told you it was simple! You can then cook on a griddle pan on the stove or a griddle plate. Cook on medium heat; 325 degrees. I prefer the lower temperature, as this recipe makes the pancakes thicker it requires a little longer cooking time to not be gooey in the middle, but if the temperature is too high you end up with dark pancakes.
After golden on both sides, serve warm! Top with your favorite pancake topping! Have you tried our Buttermilk Syrup Recipe? It’s divine!
Alterations: You can add a variety of “additives” if you like gourmet type pancakes. You can add froze blueberries, currants, sliced bananas, sliced strawberries, chopped nuts, or my kid’s favorite; chocolate chips! Simply mix them into the batter and cook as normal.
Do you prefer pancakes from scratch or from a box?
What would you add to your pancake batter for a gourmet pancake?
My daughter is hooked on banana pancakes. If I forced myself, I could probably work with this recipe, but our pancakes usually come out of a box. 😉
I always use the box mix because of the time/convenience factor. Maybe I need to try the old fashioned recipe, they look wonderful. My family enjoys blueberries in them. Wonder how pecans would be?
i can tell you Pecans are delicious in this! As are walnuts if you like them. 🙂
Super-dooper! I will try, substituting with gluten-free flour! My kids love pancakes, too.
These look great! I think I will have to make pancakes tomorrow.
Oh, man, those look yummy! I make pancakes every Thursday. I may have to add chocolate chips this week as a treat. 🙂
I always use the box mix because I am really not an experienced cook in the least. In fact, I just learned how to really perfect the box mix and it took me more than a handful of years, I’m ashamed to admit.
This weekend we made homemade oatmeal pancakes and a toppings bar for the extended, visiting family to enjoy. We had blueberries, toasted pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon and cream to choose from. Delicious! No more box mixes for us!
I used to use the boxed mixes regularly until I got married, and then hubby refused to eat them, referring to them as “fake food” lol! Once I got used to cooking from scratch it, I found out I actually enjoyed experimenting with different flavors and textures. This recipe is great, I’m going to have to try his one. Thank you!
these look delicious – it’s 2 am and I want pancakes!
