So we have since converted back to using this simple yet oh so delicious old fashioned yet easy buttermilk pancake recipe! It’s made from scratch, but really doesn’t take much more time than our box pancake mix recipes would take to mix up! And yet the flavor is far superior; more cost effective, and it’s not loaded with crazy chemicals and preservatives! And did I mention it tastes much better? In an experiment, we got a small pancake mix and mixed it up on day. The next day we mixed up this pancake recipe. The kids were quite vocal that they preferred this pancake more! And they weren’t the only ones! The husband and I both love this recipe much more. So let’s get down to the recipe!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 3 1/2 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/4 cup buttermilk (if you don’t have buttermilk you can use regular milk but it won’t be as thick.)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter

Directions: buttermilk pancake recipe Mix all ingredients together. See, I told you it was simple! You can then cook on a griddle pan on the stove or a griddle plate. Cook on medium heat; 325 degrees. I prefer the lower temperature, as this recipe makes the pancakes thicker it requires a little longer cooking time to not be gooey in the middle, but if the temperature is too high you end up with dark pancakes. buttermilk pancake recipe After golden on both sides, serve warm! Top with your favorite pancake topping! Have you tried our Buttermilk Syrup Recipe? It’s divine! Alterations: You can add a variety of “additives” if you like gourmet type pancakes. You can add froze blueberries, currants, sliced bananas, sliced strawberries, chopped nuts, or my kid’s favorite; chocolate chips! Simply mix them into the batter and cook as normal. buttermilk pancake recipe
