School is now back in full swing! And with that comes the never ending need for packing school lunch and school snacks. Sometimes it can be overwhelming to pack lunches every day. And sometimes it can just get plain boring! So that is why when I find something convenient that my kids love; I will use it to keep things from getting too boring.
For us we are lucky that we don’t have to pack a school lunch every single day. But we do have occasions when we need to pack a lunch for field trips or special days. But we also have the responsibility to provide a snack for our children each day that they take to school. Our kids are encouraged to bring a snack to school each day to eat at a given time, to help them stay alert and focused between meals.
Pack an Easy School Lunch
When it comes to packing a school lunch, it can really get boring after the first few days. So one way to help keep the school lunch from becoming a battle field each day is to have the kids involved in packing their lunch. We always focus on a few key items. This helps the kid understand what needs to go into their lunch, but also makes it easy to pack a lunch.
- Protein
- Fruit &/or Vegetable
- Grains
- Drink
- Something fun
- Diary (optional)
Now some parents would freak out about my optional dairy selection. But that is simply because we have dairy sensitivities in our home. We have to carefully track how much dairy our kids eat otherwise they end up covered in rashes. So for us, it is an optional inclusion. For other families is may be a lunch requirement.
Use our easy School lunch packing checklist printable to have your child involved in packing their own lunch. Not only will that take the stress off of Mom, but it will also have the kids involved so they are more apt to eat what you pack.
This is usually what our lunches end up being when the kids help pack their lunch:
- Sandwich of the kid’s choice. This usually will be a lunch meat sandwich, or a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
- Sliced apples, grapes or a banana
- When a sandwich is not used, we add in crackers and lunch meat
- Bottle of water or 100% juice pack as the drink.
- Optional Dairy – string cheese or a yogurt pack.
- Something fun – Jif™ Bars !
We absolutely love the Jif Bars because they are a special treat that helps to break up the boring old lunch box! My kids treat them like they are the “dessert” of the school lunch. But I get to know that they are getting something great for them.
Plus they are great for the school snacks that our kids are asked to bring to school each day.
The requirements for the snacks our children bring to school is that it needs some nutritional value, not classified as high sugared junk food (no cookies or candy bars), it needs to be mess free, and it needs to be easy.
So, nutritional, convenient and mess free….doesn’t that sound like something I talked about before? Oh yeah, our favorite snacks for kids kit that I often take in car rides or to the park!
The Jif Bars feature the same delicious peanut butter that our family loves. While at the same time combining it with a delicious granola bar! The kids really love them because they taste great and they are the perfect snack size to keep them satisfied between meals. So they make the perfect school snack too!
So whether you are packing a daily school lunch for your kids, or just sending a convenient snack to school; the Jif Bars are the perfect addition to your pantry! Kids love them, they are convenient and even better they are mess free!
