Do you remember the fun of getting a new box of cereal and digging through it (or deceptively dumping the entire box out) just to find that fun hidden toy inside? Well guess what? Now we can spread the fun memories with our kids too! Plus enjoy the goodness of our favorite General Mills Cereal and Minions at the same time!
I am the youngest of 9 kids. I remember my 8 brothers and sisters and I always fought over who got to find and have the prize inside the cereal boxes. My mom eventually had to make a rule that you can’t dump out the cereal to find the toy. Instead just take a bowl at a time and whoever the lucky person was that had it dump into their bowl won the prize!
And sometimes we had to take turns “owning” the prize as it was found. So that each person got a turn to get the hidden secret inside our favorite cereal. We all loved finding that prize inside!
Thanks to the Minions movie packaging on the XL/Family Size boxes of our favorite General Mills box cereal (Only available at Walmart) we can let our kids experience that same fun! You can now find boxes specially marked for the celebration of the new Minions movie coming out. (Because seriously, who can say no to Minions? This family can’t!). You can choose from these cereal choices
- Honey Nut Cheerios
- Cinnamon Toast Crunch
- Lucky Charms
- Reese’s Puffs
- Cocoa Puffs
- Golden Grahams
Each one of these specially marked boxes contain the 7th, and final, Minion toy! All just in time for the release of the new Minion movie! I can’t even tell you how exciting this is for our kids. (And I’ll admit it, the parents are pretty excited for the movie too).
This came just in time for us, because it is summer vacation. And I can’t tell you just how much cereal we go through in the summer. A lot! We always have to stock up on cereal when summer hits. So the last time we went to Walmart for our grocery shopping trip, I let each kid pick out their own box of the fun new Minions prize inside General Mills Cereal box!
That way they each get to find a prize!
Then when we got home they were each so excited to open their box and see just which minion they had inside!
We lucked out and ended up with three different Minions!
And even one lucky minion of my own got the special 7th Minion in his box of cereal!
Another reason why we go through cereal so quickly in the summer is because we use it for more than just breakfast. We often use our favorite General Mills cereal to make treats all summer long. Especially easy treats that the kids can be involved in making. It’s a great activity for them, and with a delicious reward at the end. Like these delicious Cocoa Puffs Marshmallow Treats.
Cocoa Puffs Marshmallow Treats
These Cocoa Puffs Marshmallow Treats are super easy to make. But they are enjoyed by everyone!
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- 40 large Marshmallows
- 6 cups Cocoa Puffs Cereal
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows in pan on medium heat
- Pour in the Cereal and stir gently until the cereal is all coated
- Spread into a lightly sprayed 9X13 pan to cool
- Cut and serve
If you would rather you can use any of the other General Mills Cereals in this recipe too, to change up the flavor. But we’ve been craving some Cocoa Puffs lately. So it was a hit in our home.
And if you really want to go the extra mile, pick up some candies that are yellow, brown, blue and white. Then use them to create an image of the minion on top! Or just do your best! See if you can do better than my sad little attempt! Make it even more fun and have a competition to see who can create the best minion!
I’m telling you it will be a huge hit with the kids! Can’t you just see their faces when they see the completed Minion on the Marshmallow Treats to go along with their new 7th Minion toy?
Make sure you look for the 7th Minion at Walmart!
Which flavor of cereal will you be picking up first?
