However all opinions are my own and I only share products/brands that I personally feel will help create a healthier, happier and more family friendly lifestyle. This month we are sharing tips on how to Spring Clean the master Bedroom; we hope you will enjoy.
April is Decorating Month! With all the spring cleaning you have been doing; isn’t it also the perfect time to decorate a room? I mean; you are already getting rid of clutter and possibly moving furniture around to get it clean. Why not just add in a few upgrades as well. Like a new Mattress if you have been sleeping on a log like we have!
So, I have some exciting news. We are moving. Like literally moving! Not moving our website. But our family is moving! The husband has finally finished off his degree; and has an actual job and we get to relocate. So I’m excited and nervous at the same time. What this means is that we are taking spring cleaning very seriously this year. It is time to get rid of junk. Do some thorough cleaning and upgrade crucial items before we move; so we can leave the old behind and not transport it to our new house.
One of the locations I have desperately been dreading to spring clean is our Master bedroom. I’m quite sad to report that our master bedroom has never been my sanctuary. How sad is that? It needs to change. We have had old sheets, a few different mis-matched blankets, and mis-matched furniture to boot. So it doesn’t really inspire motivation to keep it spic and span. And I’m ashamed to admit that any flat surface became a catch-all. And our master bedroom was in dire need of spring cleaning.
To make it as easy as possible; simply follow these few steps. It will keep you organized and keep you from skipping any steps.
10 easy steps to Spring Clean the Master Bedroom
- Spread a blanket out on the bed. This will protect your sheets/mattress from the next steps, and gives you a smooth surface to work on.
- Gather up everything from the floor that doesn’t belong there and put it on the bed
- Move to any other flat surface in your room and clear it off; putting everything on to your bed.
- Next; dust all the furniture in the room, as well as the ceiling fan.
- Clean the window/s. Check the tracks to ensure no mildew is growing.
- Now begin cleaning off the bed. Making sure you put everything into it’s proper place. Ask yourself three questions and then place items to keep in the proper place. Trash items in the trash. And Donate/sell items in a box to deal with later.
- Do I want to keep this?
- Is it trash?
- Should I donate/sell?
- As you fold clothing and put them away; check the remaining clothing in each of your drawers/shelves. Anything that doesn’t fit should be removed. Worn out clothes should be removed. Clothes you no longer want should be removed. All that should be left in your drawers/shelves are clothes that you will actually wear.
- Once the bed is completely cleaned off; wash your bedding.
- Vacuum the floor
- Remake your bed. And now you are finished and have a beautiful Spring Cleaned Master Bedroom!
Upgrading furniture after you Spring Clean.
Of all the times in the year that you should reward yourself; after Spring Cleaning is definitely one of them! This is the time when you have made leaps and bounds in your home. You have worked hard. And needless to say, you are probably feeling a little sore and worn out! This is the best time to upgrade your mattress! Because after all that work; you deserve a good nights sleep!
Our mattress has been giving us issues for quite a while now. It is only 4 years old. But it has not held up to the test. We got it when I was pregnant with Miss Jade. Our mattress before that was over 20 years old and used when we got it. It was time to upgrade. But we definitely didn’t know what to look for in a mattress when we bought our last one. It didn’t have a good warranty. And wasn’t made of quality materials. It was soft at the time. But by the end of the pregnancy; it already had “dips” in the mattress from where we slept.
As the years passed, the “dips” got worse. Now there is a big “lump” in the middle of the bed. And you slide right back into the “dip” in the mattress. Even if you want to sleep in a different position. Not possible. We measured last week and the dips were now 2″ dips in the mattress. Not so good for a great nights sleep. So we took this Spring cleaning opportunity to trade up our mattress and get the new 12″ Nature’s Sleep Glacier Gel Memory Foam mattress.
It was a lot of excitement when the FedEx truck arrived. And I was actually surprised to see a nice rectangular box. It didn’t look big enough to hold our king sized mattress! But sure enough it was in there!
We had the husband unbox it while I video taped him. He started out being patient and trying to open the box as normal. Well that didn’t last long. He was too excited and soon the box was ripped up rather nicely. Then he dived right in to remove all the packaging.
Mind you, I highly recommend you do this entire process where you want your mattress to end up. It is heavy. And a lot harder to move once it is unpacked. So we moved the box onto our box springs and did the unpacking there. So much easier.
You want to be careful and only remove one layer of packaging at a time. The inside layer is actually what is keeping it really tight and small. Once you pop that layer; the entire mattress begins to inflate to it’s actual size. So you don’t want to pop it until you have the other layers of packaging removed.
Then at the last layer; go ahead and snip those ties and watch the magic happen! You can actually hear it inflating and it was quite a fun site to see! I didn’t really notice it getting bigger at first. I just thought it was unrolling. But then after about 15 minutes I realized it was quite a bit bigger than it had been when we unrolled it. And it continued to keep inflating.
We slept on our Natures Sleep memory foam bed that first night and it was such an improvement! And that was only about 6-7 hours out of packaging. And it was still a great sleep. Although the mattress can take up to 24 hours for full inflation to it’s proper size.
So we are giving this new Natures Sleep memory foam bed a try. From the first moment the Husband laid on our new Natures Sleep memory foam mattress; he was in love. And he isn’t the only one! I can’t seem to keep Miss Jade off our bed any more! She is always wanting in there to lay on our bed now.
We will be trying it out for a few months and will be reporting back to you later to let you know how our sleeping habits and sleep quality have improved.
