Growing up my Mom was the QUEEN of being frugal, organized and making things last. She had to, because she had 9 kids! Now I’m trying to run my household and I wish I had half the amazing qualities my mom had. One of which was keeping track of everything in the house we need.
My Mom always had a checklist to track what our home needed, how many we had, and how many we used in a given month. So then as we used something up in a month, she would mark it down on her inventory clip board. That way she knew how many of what items she needed to replace come the monthly shopping trip!
Not only did she keep track of food this way, but also household items, medicines, cleaning supplies and more. But she would also keep track of which stores had the best price for each item. So she always knew which store to shop at to replace it at the best price.
I loved this system that my mom always used. So I decided it was time that I made myself a Household Inventory printable so that I could easily keep track of our household inventory needs. The benefit for you, is that I am also sharing it with you in a FREE Printable form! So you can also keep track of your household inventory needs!

I made a column for each item we need. As you can see, I even added in some essentials into mine to give you an idea.
Then you can put in a goal number. For us we are working on having a year supply of everything. When I say everything, I mean everything! We want a year supply of food, household cleaners, paper goods, medicines, etc. Everything we could need to live incase something happened such as the husband losing his job. This way we would have a cushion. So for me this goal number is important. It is how many of each item we would need to have a year supply.
Then the other columns are pretty self explanatory. Record how many you currently have and how many you use in a month. That way you know how many you need to replace when it comes time to go shopping. No more having to go to your storage room and count out each item every time you go shopping!
I also included a handy shopping list that you can divide by the different stores you shop at, and which store you get the best price for each item. And of course I also gave a little space for any notes you want to make, such as “Such and such a store had a case lot sale” or “There will be a special sale deal at Walmart for P&G Products”.
Speaking of special deal, P&G products ARE having a special deal at Walmart in the month of April to help you stock up and save!
How to stock up and save
The easy way to stock up and save and help you reach your goal number is
- Buy what you need to replace what you used then add one. This helps you slowly build your extra supply without breaking the bank all at once.
- Watch for sales
- Watch for case lot sales (many stores do this around Spring and Autumn. You can get items in bulk at a better price.
- Use Coupons (but don’t buy something just because there IS a coupon. Buy what you normally buy but watch for coupons for your favorite items to help cut costs.
- Buy the larger quantity item at the store (often it is less money per ounce or count than the more convenient sized packaging)
For me, I noticed the great deal on P&G products this month. You can get items like Febreze air fresheners, Bounty PaperTowels, Pampers Diapers, TIDE detergent,Dawn Dishwashing liquid and more!
I picked up more Tide, Pampers and Dawn. These three items we go through so fast. I mean, I have a baby. Of course I need Tide and Pampers!
And then the Dawn, well not only it is amazing for washing dishes, but it is also the perfect item for our best stain remover ever (recipe coming soon) and it also makes the best bubbles for summer play! Not to mention it also makes great baking soda volcanos. So I always need a big supply on hand in a given notice.
