A ginormous thank you to #CollectiveBias and their advertiser for compensation and making this the best dance party in the world. Or should I say…in the galaxy! #ownthegalaxy
My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary this year. Yay us! It was an unusual year with large expenses. We had a devastating house flood and a huge family reunion to Disneyland that was years in the making. So how did we celebrate our anniversary? We went to the movies! We got to go see Guardians of the Galaxy in this charming little vintage theater. When we walked out (and hurried home because babysitters aren’t all that cheap nowadays), we were thrilled by how much we loved the movie.
One of the things I kept saying over and over was how much I loved the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack! It was unexpected yet fresh and entertaining.
Months later when the soundtrack became available, you bet your bottom dollar we bought that puppy right up. My kids and I have a long standing tradition of having dance parties. In fact, they’re a daily occurance at our house. Sometimes we dress up for them, and sometimes they’re impromptu and happen when a good song comes on while I’m doing the dishes. Ever since the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack was introduced at our house, my kids, especially my 5 year old son, only want to listen to that for our dance parties.
Want to know what my son calls it? Of course you do! He calls it, “the rockin’ music.” That is a direct quote. “Mom, can we have the rockin’ music?”
As you can see, he takes his dancing very seriously. Which is why he needs the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Every time we get in the car, he asks for it. Every time he feels the need to shake his bon bon, he asks for it. Any time a remotely upbeat song comes on the radio, he asks for it. “Mom, can we have the rockin’ music?” Or he’ll get all accusatory. “This isn’t rockin’ music!”
Down boy.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack has classics that music lovers of all ages will enjoy. Our favorites are Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede, I Want You Back by Jackson 5, Come and Get Your Love by Redbone and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.
My kids have never actually seen GOTG, but to celebrate the release of the movie (which is TOMORROW!!), we went down to Walmart and snatched up some goodies.
The first thing we did was head straight to the music aisle of Walmart.
Then we went to a little section at the end, under “soundtracks.”
And there it was. I was giddy, and my son looked at me like I was crazy. If he only knew how to read.
Next we walked through the toy section to see where the GOTG toys were.
At our Walmart, there was a cool little “Marvel” area that had action figures and toys from all the Marvel movies, including Guardians of the Galaxy!
Then it was on to the main event.
T-shirts! I found some awesome shirts in the Juniors section for girls. (Not children’s, Juniors. As in, teenagers. I may be 30, but I’m still young at heart. Don’t judge.)
Here are the pictures of us each choosing our shirt. I’m a little fuzzy, but I can’t complain since my photographer is a 5 year old who doesn’t have a ton of experience with an Android phone. I’ll need to train him up a little better. 🙂
The kids were so excited! And by kids, I mean me too. I went with the pink one because you can never have too many hot pink tees. My son went with the Rocket Raccoon shirt after much deliberation. My 2 year old daughter didn’t want to be left out, so we got her a shirt from the boy’s section and dolled it up a bit. (Ahem, that means I rolled up the sleeves and gathered the side, 80’s style.) She LOVED it.
(When my daughter saw the pictures just now, she said, “Look! That’s us in our awesome shirts!”) We wore them while we danced around like happy fools and sported our shirts proudly. A friend actually knocked on my door and my son had to explain to her that we were all wearing our special shirts and dancing to our “rockin’ music.”
Because the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack is so diverse, it’s a perfect gift for even the hardest people to shop for.

Don’t you just love the soft glow of Christmas lights reflecting off the soundtrack. Sigh. So festive. 🙂
Want to know what else would be fantastic in a stocking or beautifully wrapped and hidden under the tree? Pretty much anything from the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Just head over to Walmart or Walmart.com and search through all their Guardians of the Galaxy gear.
There’s movies, music, toys, books, posters, clothes, costumes…you name it. You’ll find something there for everyone on your list. And the DVD comes out tomorrow. It’ll be sporting some pretty awesome extras: Exclusive Character O-sleeve and exclusive music zinepack and a 64-page magazine with cast and crew interviews, exclusive behind-the-scenes photos and trivia PLUS a custom “cassette” laptop decal. Sign me up for some of that for sure.
But wait, there’s more! (I’ve always wanted to say that.)
When you buy a Disney Infinity 2.0 figurines of Rocket Raccoon, Drax or Groot figurine between 12/7 – 12/13, you’ll get a $5 Walmart gift card instantly! (You’ll find them in the game/electronics department at Walmart since they go with the Disney Infinity game.)
We have the Guardians of the Galaxy Soundtrack on MP3, but Santa just bought our 5 year old his own CD so he can listen to the music whenever he wants. He’s going to be so excited! And a giant poster may or may not find it’s way into the stocking as well. I’m just sayin’.
What did you find that will be perfect for the hard-to-shop-for person on your list?
Don’t forget, Guardians of the Galaxy comes out on DVD TOMORROW – Dec 9th!

Jealous of how many soundtracks your Walmart had - we went to get ours + copy of the DVD yesterday and they couldn't find any of the soundtracks! I was about to go back out to a different Walmart and FINALLY one found it in the box :).
I rewatched the movie w/ my family yesterday too, everyone loved it :).

I've got to see this movie, and get the soundtrack. From what I've heard of it it sounds like some music I'd love to listen to.
