Valentine’s Day is fast approaching! Do you have plans? For me Valentine’s Day used to be called Single Awareness Day. Yeah, I was a little bitter growing up. I never got a Valentine from anyone special until I was long into College. With the exception for the one year in high school, when my best friend got me a flower. She totally made my day that year. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be solely about your romantic relationships. It is a day to celebrate all kinds of loving relationships. Because of that amazing lesson I learned from my best friend; I now make a point to get something special for my kids each Valentine’s Day.
Selecting the perfect Valentine’s Day Card
Now we don’t make a huge hoopla about Valentine’s Day in our house. It’s not a holiday to go out and spend a ton of money on a huge present. But we do make a point to get something special for each person. Usually this is a Hallmark Valentine’s Day Card and something sweet they can really enjoy. It is a great excuse for me to show my kids and husband just how special they are to me. More so out of the normal every day expressions I offer them.
Last year I waited too long and the Valentine’s Day Card selection was really sad and empty. This time I’m not making that mistake again. As soon as the Hallmark Valentine’s Day cards arrived in our Walmart I was there looking through them!
I dropped Miss Jade off at her Therapy appointment; thinking 45 minutes should be enough time right? After all I’m just looking for a Valentine’s Day card for each kid and one for the Husband. Boy was I wrong. Oh my goodness! There are so many amazing Hallmark Valentine’s Day Cards this year! I mean it took up more than a full isle on both sides! Plus an extra section on another isle!
Plus for the frugally minded, they even have yet ANOTHER section solely of Hallmark cards that are all just $0.97 each! I’m telling you there are a lot of Valentine’s Day card options!
After 45 minutes I only had a card picked out for each of the kids, but hadn’t decided on one for the husband yet. But I had to go pick up Miss Jade. So I took what I had. But I was really impressed with the selections I was able to find!
To make picking out the perfect Valentine’s Day Card a little easier follow these few tips:
- Make sure you have plenty of time to browse the selection!
- Go with a game plan– a list of who you are shopping for.
- Decide ahead of time if you are looking for humor, musical, action or simple cards. Serious or more silly cards.
- Use the white label dividers with the genre of the cards in that section. Find the genre you are specifically looking for and then read the cards in that section.
- Make your selection and then leave before you get distracted by all the other fun cards.
I went back a few days later when I had more time. This way I could really browse the cards and find the perfect Valentine’s Day card for the Husband. This is the downside. They don’t have all the cards organized like I would like. They have “For him”, “For Her”, “Grandson” “For kids” and all the other categories all mixed together. So I will find a few cards for husbands and then it’s another few sections later I will find another “For husband” card. I wish they would put all the “For Husband” and “For Wife”, “Love” or “Humor” cards together in one section so it would be easier to browse.
I ended up wading 10 minutes through the cards just trying to find the “for Husband” cards. But that may just be my own Walmart’s issue and not common for every Walmart.
Eventually I finally found a few cards that would be perfect for the Husband. It was hard picking out my favorite. Normally I love to pick out a humor card for the husband. I like to see him laugh. But every now and then I want one that tells a bit more of the serious side. There was plenty of serious, romantic Hallmark Valentine’s Day cards to pick from. And plenty of Humorous ones too.
After I had the perfect card picked out for each kid and the husband, I paired it with a simple treat that I know they will love. For the kids I picked up a SIXLETS treat. They don’t get chocolate very often; so Holidays are the perfect time to treat them. And I know it is something they absolutely love.
As for the husband. He’s more of a health nut. But he adores his hot sauces. So obviously that was easy. I’m pairing his Hallmark Valentine’s Day card with some fun Hot Sauces this year. I really can’t wait until Valentine’s Day to see all their faces!
I just know they are going to love the treats. But even more so I think they will adore the cards the most! Each one is picked specifically for each person. I found the perfect card for each personality. I know they are going to love them.
The last step of shopping for Valentine’s Day Cards from Hallmark is getting your rewards. Did you know you can earn points and get rewards for buying Hallmark cards? I just learned this and I am seriously in love! I love the Hallmark cards and get them all the time. So this reward program is perfect for us.
It is super easy to sign up for the Hallmark Rewards program. It took me less than 5 minutes. And now every time I purchase Hallmark Cards, I just log it in and for every 5 cards I buy, I earn rewards!
When you buy the cards, you simply log in and report the UPC number and boom, you are finished. They even have an app to make the entire process even easier! Simply download the app and then you scan in each card. So easy! I prefer the app method.

These are great cards and I like the funny ones. Back in the day, i bought fancy cards but with all the trees ... I'm okay with the recycled ones too. Eliz

It really can be tough choosing the right card. It's why I don't bother getting cards anymore. I'm not even sure we're celebrating Valentines Day this year. So much to do and so little time. :)

I'm usually not a big Valentine's Day celebrator but my parents do like putting a little something together for my sister and I just to show us they love us which is always very nice :)

In the past I've always expected such greatness for Valentine's Day... but I'm growing out of that. This year we will do cards and a small candy, just like you've done! I love the Hallmark card aisle at Walmart too!
