Family Dinner Traditions for a Happier Family

Family Dinner Traditions for a Happier Family

Like most families, our week is crazy. Filled with kid’s activities, chores, homework, and places to be. And that doesn’t leave a lot of time for gathering as a family or hosting an elaborate dinner. But even though sometimes it is hard for schedules to collide; we make the effort to uphold our family dinner tradition! We always all eat together.

When I was growing up, this was just the norm. Mom cooked, and everyone was present. I had no idea there were families that didn’t eat together! That didn’t gather around the table every night for family dinner. This wasn’t normal? This wasn’t common?

So when we had our own family, this is something that was important to both of us. So it is a family dinner tradition we have continued. Making sure everyone is gathered together for a family dinner.

It wasn’t until the kids started getting older that I realized how this could be a struggle for some families. But now our kids all have different activity schedules. Pulling us all in different directions at different times. But having that family dinner together is really important for our family. So sometimes we actually tell people “Sorry we will be late” and we make the time for family dinner.

And when time is short and we are pulled every direction; making an easy family dinner is very important. Less than 20 minutes is golden! So part of our family tradition is often times enjoying super simple pasta dishes. When I have time I like to create our own homemade spaghetti sauce, but most evenings we don’t have time for scratch. So Ragú sauce is our lifesaver to make sure our family dinner tradition happens!
