This post is a follow up of our 10 Reasons Why you may need a whole house water filter article. Many thanks to Hydrocare for supplying us with a DUALPlexx whole house water filter to make this 2 part educational series possible!
Benefits of a Dualplexx Water filter
Remember last December when we shared our 10 Reasons why you may need a whole house water filter? We discussed the pros and cons of having a whole house water filter versus just an osmosis or single faucet filter. If you haven’t read it, I encourage you to go there first and see why we chose to go with a whole house water filter.
Like I mentioned in the last article, it took us some time to get our water filter installed. We had some plumbing issues we had to fix first before we could install. Just something that comes with the territory of owning a home. But once that was solved we set to work to getting our DUALPlexx installed.
Normally it would require basic plumbing 101 to get this installed. So it is left up to the owner to install their own system. But our house is unique. Where most homes have water that comes into the home and pipes that run horizontally; our house just had to be a challenge where the pipe runs vertically. So we had to get my Father-in-law who has a bit more plumbing experience to help us get it installed.
They got pretty creative with the piping, and he even created some flow stops in our system. Which I love, because it will make changing out the filters really easy when the time comes. The DUALPlexx has an 80,000 gallon capacity. So depending on how much water you use, you could be looking at changing your filter approximately every 9-12 months.
A trip to the hardware store and a few hours later the husband and the father-in-law had this installed and ready to go. We let the piping glue dry over night and then the next day our water began to filter.
It begins by all the water flowing into the first filter. The first stage removes sediment, iron, and rust that stains fixtures and discolors clothes. It will reduce microorganisms such as cysts and inhibits bacterial and algae growth.
HydroCare’s patented parallel flow design splits the water into two redundant processing canisters which effectively doubles the contact time the water has with the purification media. That means a better filtering system. The water is then recombined as it flows out so that there is no impact on water pressure. Plus you can also order special filters that help filter out fluoride and limescale as well.
And for peace of mind, the DualPlexx carries a 1 year full Performance Guarantee* plus a separate 3 year manufacturer’s parts warranty.
The first thing I loved was that we had fresh filtered water out of every faucet! Whether it was the tub, shower, sink to wash my hands, the washing machine, or even just the kitchen faucet; it was all filtered. It surely helps when we need a drink in the middle of the night, we can just grab one from a nearby faucet, instead of stumbling to the kitchen to get it from the filter in the fridge.
But more importantly, I have noticed a big difference in my skin. My eczema has mellowed by 10 fold. I have rarely had an outbreak. And here we are in the dead of winter when normally both of my hands would be cracked, bleeding and in pain from eczema. But since having a whole house water filter I maybe get a little itchy with mild eczema isolated to 1 finger.
I have noticed my hair is softer, and smoother. It holds color from dying a lot longer. And it is a lot less frizzy. Our clothes are easier to wash. They come out softer and fresher.
Our water tastes better. It tastes fresher. And we have this unique problem living near a lake. We often have shrimp that dies on the “beaches” and that smell tends to seep into our water. Well since having the DUALPlexx filter, I have not smelled the dead shrimp since in our water!
So basically having a whole house water filter has affected almost every aspect of our living in this house. From how we drink water, bath, shower, wash dishes or clothes, and even helps our appliances run better which will help them last longer. I have loved having our DUALPlexx, and I can tell a difference when we visit friends or family that don’t have one. The difference in taste of water, or just how it makes my skin feel after washing hands or showering is amazing.
So what if you have a smaller home? Or maybe you don’t think you can swing the cost of the DUALPlexx but still want all the benefits? Never fear! HydroCare has a great alternative. A smaller system called the QuadMaxx! The QuadMaxx is perfect for smaller homes with 1-3 bathrooms. It offers the same great water filter system, but at a more affordable price of $495.
