The husband and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversary and I had a birthday a few weeks later. Due to the Husband being gone for his internship, our celebrations had to be put off until this last weekend when we dropped the kids off at the Grandparents house and we got away for a romantic stay at Destinations Inn in Idaho Falls, Idaho. I should warn you though, this post is full of pictures! I mean, a lot of pictures! I got a little camera happy as I was so impressed with the style and decor of Destinations Inn.
A Destination like no other at Destinations Inn
I have never been to a five star hotel, or the likes, so this was quite an experience for me. Have you ever heard of themed suites? Well that is exactly what the Destinations Inn is. It features different rooms with different themes and they are all decorated in that theme. Destinations Inn has each room decorated in a theme of locations around the world. They feature
- Alaska
- Hawaii
- New York
- Rio De Janeiro
- England
- Paris
- Venice
- Morocco
- Rome
- Athens
- Arabia
- Thailand
- Congo
- Egypt
Destinations Inn is located in Downtown Idaho Falls, Idaho and is within walking distance of the popular green belt, shops, dining facilities and more. Although the building may not look like much on the outside, it is definitely amazing on the inside!
The entrance has an old fashion European feel to it. It may not look like a big city 5 star hotel, but it has class and finesse; you won’t be disappointed.
The lobby is full of elegance and exquisite decor reminiscent of the luxury hostels we visited while living in Germany.
The front desk is well organize and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Upon check in you are given your keys, and then you are able to select the food you want for your continental breakfast which is delivered to your room door; but more on that later. They also have different amenities that you can pick up such as blow driers, current and popular DVD movies, and more.
Our room was on the second floor. On exiting the elevator, we were greeted with romantic lighting and a great theme on the wall. “Happiness is not a place to travel to. It’s a way of getting there.”
What I also loved about Destinations Inn right away was how each of the doors are designed to look old and full of character, yet they aren’t actually old. They are strong, sturdy and very smooth. The design is just that, a design!
To add to the character of the themed suites, the keys also aren’t the traditional card keys that most hotels use now. They are actual hard keys that you use in the door. Just don’t forget to re-lock your room when you leave!
Experience Destinations Inn Egypt Theme suite.
Spend a summer evening in the cool antechamber of an Egyptian pyramid with its sandstone walls, beautiful columns decorated with ancient hieroglyphics, sphinx statues, and the soothing gold and bronze of Pharaoh’s best accommodations. Modern amenities include a chromatherapy champagne bubbling tub, a sauna, a king sized bed with the finest Egyptian linen, and a projection screen TV with remote control to manage everything from the lights to the tub.
Welcome to the Egypt room! It was a very difficult choice which room to pick as so many of them look amazing. But we settled on the Egypt room for this time visiting. I say this time, because I can guarantee you this won’t be our last time.
I love the entire look of the room! The pillars as you can see are well detailed. Those images aren’t just painted on, they are actual 3 D images in the pillars!
The room was more spacious than I was expecting, although the Husband said it was smaller than he was expecting. But in all honesty, it’s the largest hotel room we’ve ever experienced! I didn’t feel claustrophobic at all.
Upon arrival we were greeted with Chilled Sparkling Cider on Ice with 2 wine glasses and two slices of cheesecake in the fridge. Now that is the perfect introduction to a romantic weekend.
The cheesecakes were actually quite tasty. Now mind you, they aren’t my homemade easy no bake cheesecake that I have no self control over. But for a non-homemade cheesecake, these were one of the best I’ve tasted.
The room has a separate vanity, with large mirror and plenty of counter space. This was very handy for when I had to spread out my make up. It also has space if you need to hang up clothes.
The vanity houses the Coffee maker, water glasses, coffee mugs and coffee. Although since we don’t drink coffee this wasn’t much use to us. I would however love to see Hot Chocolate packets added to the mix, for those of us that don’t drink coffee, we could still enjoy a relaxing hot drink.
When I say that Destinations Inn is world class, I truly mean it! Even the faucets are high quality Danze water fixtures. Danze is a leading European brand that stands for quality and finesse!
The attention to detail is unparalleled, as even things as small as the soap dispenser and light fixtures match the decor of the room!
The room offers plenty of space to relax in. It has a raised tub which I will talk about more later. A fun Egyptian style entry way, a large shower, separate toilet room, microwave, mini fridge, sauna and much more! I honestly can’t believe I didn’t get any pictures of the sauna though! I must have really been enjoying myself, as I thought I had the photos; but when I got home, there weren’t any on my camera. So I’m sorry about that, just know it was fantastic! It was large enough for two people and it was definitely a great start to our morning.
The Shower has it’s own light, which I love! Most hotels have just one light for the entire bathroom and yet when you pull that curtain shut, the shower is greatly dimmed. But you don’t have to worry about that with the shower! It was bright, well lit, and very spacious! No bumping into cold walls here!
As I mentioned before, the room features Danze water fixtures. Even the shower is quite elegant!
To help set the mood for your room, there a different light settings that you can use such as all lights on, a dimmer romantic setting, an in between setting labeled Welcome, and also an easy way to turn off all lights. There was this control panel at the front door and another one next to the bed. It made it very nice to turn all the lights off with one button and not have to then try to find your way back to the bed in the dark.
Speaking of beds, the king size pillow top bed was quite comfortable! It wasn’t too firm and wasn’t too soft! It was just right! It was spacious, warm, inviting and provided an amazing night’s sleep! Even the pillows were amazing. Unlike other hotels we’ve stayed at, these pillows were supportive yet still soft. I hate staying a night to have a thin and hard pillow, or one that is so light and fluffy that your face sinks in and you can’t breathe. Again, Destinations got it just right with these pillows!
And the sheets? Well they were amazing! Yes you guessed it; Egyptian Linen! Oh, I so have got to get me some sheets like theirs!
Awaiting for us on our bed was a very unexpected welcome card! Now how cool is that? They welcomed us to our room by name! That gave a personal touch showing how much our visit means to them.
Above the bed is a projector used for watching TV, Cable, DVD’s and music on the motorized screen that comes down from the ceiling. It gave a whole new meaning to watching TV in bed!
The room has a great sound system, all hooked up to these machines on an end table at the side of the bed. They are controlled by one master remote. But don’t worry, if it gets out of sync they also have each individual remotes there to still get your music, movie or cable turned on.
The picture quality was very clear and crisp. Although it seemed as though the projector was a little off on it’s aim, almost as though it needed to be lowered just a little bit. But we still enjoyed watching movies in bed with the amazing surround sound.
Across the room from the bed is a beautiful Muriel on the wall with a table and chair for relaxing or eating breakfast on. It gave the room a perfect touch and balance between the theme and the luxury amenities. And if you like air control, each room also has it’s own A/C and heating unit, so your room will always be the perfect temperature.
The room also featured an adult size sarcophagus. This was taller than the Husband. It even opens and has shelves inside! It seemed to complete the room.
Still paying close to detail, the room featured theme appropriate plants as well. Although fake, they still add flair and color to the room.
Room Amenities at Destinations Inn
Every Destinations Inn has a two person chromatherapy champagne bubbler bath tub. This is definitely one of my favorite features of the entire weekend!
The tub is large, and elevated and features plenty of space around the top so you don’t feel crowded.
The ceiling above the tub is quite unique and offers it’s own romantic lighting for a relaxing massage bath.
What would an Egyptian room be without the Vases that are so prevalent in Egypt culture? Although they aren’t used for anything they really help bring out the theme.
The steps and entire area near the tub, shower, sauna and bathroom is all tile. This is great so you don’t worry about dripping on the carpet and having it wet for hours later. At the same time, it does offer some worry about slipping with wet feet. So be sure to dry your feet well before you venture from any destination.
They had four large, thick and warm towels awaiting us. I love that they aren’t stingy with the towels, as with such options for relaxation it is very likely you would need two for a nights stay. One for the tub and one for when you use the shower.
Now with all hotels we’ve stayed at, they all feature their own shampoos and soaps. I hate them. They always dry my hair and skin out and the conditioners never do anything. So I came prepared; only to discover Destinations Inn isn’t like other hotels! They care about your luxury, so what do they offer? Bath and Body Works shampoo, conditioner, soap and even a travel size lotion! Now these are some hotel amenities I can use!
The tub was one of the first things I had to try! I am crazy about relaxing baths, but since moving from Germany we haven’t been blessed with a tub deep enough to get a good relaxing soak. So I was very eager to try this one out! The champagne bubbler tubs are out of this world amazing! They release thousands of warmed bubbles from the bottom of the tub to excite the skin and massage the entire body. They also include a chromatherapy lighting system that will allow you to enjoy the soothing effects of a constant color wash or the soft rotation of the aquatic water pools. I got in and didn’t want to ever leave! I told the Husband “We need to get one of these!”
The colors were a lot of fun as well. Once you turned them on, they slowly cycled through each one.
But the best part was definitely when the bubbles were on. Look at that power! You can adjust the strength of the bubbles as well as set them to go in a rhythmic patterns of soft, increased intensity and then soft again. It was quite therapeutic!
Now of course what would be a relaxing bubble bath experience without the sparkling cider? It was very relaxing being massaged by the bubbles and sipping my Apple Sparkling Cider in the tub with soft music playing through our surround sound. The husband and I were able to just relax and talk, laugh and enjoy the company. It was truly the best Anniversary and Birthday celebration we’ve had yet in our 10 years of marriage.
Destinations Inn Continental Breakfast
As I mentioned earlier, upon arrival you select the type of breakfast you want. You can choose to have the night basket which is delivered to your room in the evening which contains water bottles, juice bottles, a few snacks, and pre-packaged foods of your choice from the menu. You can then warm it up at your convenience in the morning.
Or you can choose the morning breakfast that is delivered to your door at a time you specify, with the food already prepared and warmed. You choose two drinks per person, and one main dish per person. The tray also comes with a yogurt parfait. We opted for the breakfast delivery in the morning.
When the food arrives, they merely place it on a tray outside your door, knock and then they leave. You are able to retrieve the tray at your convenience. Then you can enjoy your hot breakfast in the privacy of your room.
I have to say the breakfast was delicious! The food was rich, full of flavor and a lot bigger portions than we were expecting! We ended up sharing the Cinnamon roll and the ham and cheese melt breakfast roll, so we could both have some of each. The yogurt was delectable, the hot chocolate was perfect, and best of all the Cranberry juice is actual 100% juice blend and not full of added sugars!
Our breakfast sure beats the typical stale muffins, cold cereal, or yogurt cups you typically find in hotel continental breakfasts. We enjoyed a calm and relaxing morning eating our breakfast, watching a movie and enjoying our surroundings. With checkout at 11am, you don’t have to rush to get up and get out. You can continue the same relaxing pace you’ve experienced all the evening before.
Book your own Destination get away at Destinations Inn
Overall, our stay at Destinations Inn was outstanding! The staff was very friendly and helpful! The room was very clean, well decorated and very luxurious at the same time being very comfortable. I quite enjoyed the sauna, but my favorite was definitely the bubble tub!
I would however add hot chocolate packets in the rooms next to the coffee pot for those that don’t drink coffee, and a bag of microwave popcorn in the microwave for the movie moments. But other wise it was the most amazing and relaxing weekend I’ve had in a very long time. I literally felt like I had spent the weekend at the spa and I didn’t want to leave! One night was definitely not long enough.
