A special thanks to Lindt Chocolate for sponsoring today’s Date night ideas article. We hope we can help you find great ways to enjoy date night for under $10!
Do you have a date night? I remember my parents had date night religiously every Friday Night. I loved that my parents took that time to reconnect with each other and spend special time together. It not only was good for their relationship, but it was good for me to see how my parents put such importance on their marriage.
We have continued to have date night each week in our own marriage. But we can’t always afford to go out for date night. So we have learned to be creative with our Date night ideas. So I wanted to share with you some of our date night ideas for under $10! You don’t have to always be rich to have a date night. You just have to set aside the special time each week to make it important for your relationship.
Date night ideas
There are lots of things you can do for date night. But most importantly you need four key items
- Your significant other present
- No kids around
- An activity
- Refreshments
Ok, so #4 isn’t a MUST have, but it’s definitely a very fun feature to include to make it a little more special than every ordinary day. So I always include it in our date nights.
Now #1 is obvious. You need your significant there. You can’t have date night without them. For some this is hard because you may be separated due to work, travel or in our case for a few years it was the Military and deployments. That puts a damper on date night. So Skype was a big deal for us through those years. We would set up Date night through skype so we could still see and hear each other.
Next you need to have your kids out of the way. Baby sitters cost a lot. So often times we wait until the kids go to bed and then start date night. A lot of our date nights are at home so we don’t have to use a baby sitter. But we still make it special with steps #3 and #4.
You need to do a fun activity you both can enjoy and will build your relationship. We like to play games. Sometimes if it’s been a very long week we will watch a movie on Netflix or catch up on the weekly TV shows we’ve missed through the week.
But we also love to play games. So just pick out some of your favorite 2 person games. We have a big collection of games to pick from. Uno H20 is a great classic game we like to play. But we also play Munchkin, Killer Bunnies, Pandemic, and other board and card games. We have also been known to play the Wii and Xbox together with games such as Skylanders (yeah, it’s not just for kids, it is actually quite fun), Raving Rabbids (a hilarious video game that will have you laughing the entire time) and Rock Band. We also like to change it up a bit by playing MMORPGs online.
Basically you need to pick a game that will encourage conversation with each other and have you doing something enjoyable together.
Another great idea is to invite the neighbors!
We’ve been doing this a bit lately and it really adds a lot of fun to date night! Everyone needs a date night. And not everyone can afford to go out. So invite some friends over to play games. It encourages a lot of conversation. Not only do you get special time with your spouse in adult conversation but you also get to build friendships with other couples together.
Just make sure you have at least one night a month that is just you and your spouse. But adding other couples in on date night can make it a lot of fun.
Lastly, you need refreshments. You don’t have to do anything big and elaborate. The best choice for us is always Chocolate! Oh man, nothing makes a better Date night refreshment than chocolate! And Lindt is one of the favorites!
The new Lindt HELLO chocolate collection is the hip and trendy brand in premium chocolate, and it is all about inspiring social connections and conversations. They have some really fun It Started With HELLO videos to spark ideas for starting a conversation with Lindt HELLO chocolate. Plus they only cost anywhere from $1-$4 depending on which chocolate bar you pick up. You are way under a $10 budget for date night, you can even splurge and get multiple flavors!
Plus they make the perfect addition to a date night! Our date night this last weekend consisted of playing another online game and enjoying the vast array of the new Lindt HELLO chocolate. It definitely got us talking as we “OOOHHH’d” and “AHHH’d” over each bite.
Plus they are hosting a fun Lindt HELLO Sweet Connections Sweepstakes for you to make connections and a chance to win some sweet experiences from @LindtChocolate. Like for the week of 10/1-10/7 you can win a Staycation prize package for a night of pampering with movies, books and chocolate! Or 10/8-10/14 you can win a day at a spa + chocolate for you and a bestie friend!
Planning a great date night doesn’t require a lot of work or a lot of money. Just remember those four key features; Your significant other, no kids, a fun activity and an amazing refreshment like Lindt HELLO chocolate! And you are set to have a great date night!

What great ideas. Going out gets very expensive fast. I love playing board games and cards games. Before the internet my husband and I would play Rummy 500 often and had a lot of fun. And you gotta have snacks! The new Lindt chocolates look cute. I have a great fondness for chocolate. ;-D

UNO h20 is awesome if you have kids!! UNO H20 features all new clear, plastic cards and a portable, waterproof carrying case. Plus a few changed rules. It's just a lot of fun! My kids love the new cards. I love that they are more durable.

Date nights don't always have to be expensive ... My husband and I love to cook so a date night we like is to cook together -- like tempura night with a movie or fish taco night with a Kinect video game competition. Any night without the kids feels like a date night though = )
