Cleaning Tips to Reduce Allergies + Free Printable Chore Chart

Allergies! Almost everyone I know has them. Do you know someone that struggles with allergies? Did you know that using special routine cleaning tips, quality vacuuming and using a printable chore chart can reduce the amount of allergy attacks you face? It’s true! I know because our home is living proof!

This last year we finally got a diagnosis for my son! It’s been a long road. He has suffered from allergies; that much we knew. But he would get a lot of chest issues, breathing problems, a tick-like cough and other issues. Well, apparently he has moderate asthma! It took us 3 years to get this diagnosed and confirmed! All because he doesn’t have a reaction like most asthma cases experience. But it does cause problems in his breathing, excessive cough and makes him very likely to develop Silent Pneumonia (which he got last year and scared us silly). The scary thing about Silent Pneumonia is that there are no signs for it until it is already very severe.

Through this experience we learned that allergies, pollen, dust and more really trigger his asthma symptoms. Not to mention it also makes the rest of us miserable too with our allergy symptoms. So we’ve worked to develop a system that is effective to help reduce allergens in our home to keep his asthma symptoms mild to non-existent.

Cleaning tips + Printable Chore Chart!

The key is having a clean home with a routine to keep it clean. And there are certain jobs that are required to keep the home free of dust, allergens and such. Dusting is essential for obvious reasons. But vacuuming is also a huge key to keeping allergens minimal! Especially if you happen to have pets!

Now, no one is allergic to pets in our house, but I can tell when we haven’t vacuumed for a while because we all start having more severe allergy symptoms. It’s a combination of dust, pet danger, dirt, and of course every day living building up in the carpets. Plus our carpets all look like this…

Just look at all that dog and cat hair everywhere! Gah! So annoying. So for us having a quality vacuum that really lifts away the dirt is crucial.

But not only that, but it also needs to be very user friendly. Because in our home we believe that kids need to help with the chores. And our boys are old enough to be included in the weekly chore chart. That means our kids will be vacuuming their bedrooms and the main living spaces as well. So a vacuum must be easy for them to use.

It also helps when it is simple for this pregnant Mama too!

And let’s face it, our old vacuum was not user friendly. The chord was short, the “on/off” button was low (so this poor pregnant mama has to bend and squish her belly to turn it on), it’s heavy, and it clogs constantly!

Not to mention the husband literally has to take it apart about every 2 weeks to clean the brush roll and get all the hair from the pets and us girls out of the vacuum. This is labor intensive! It means taking the vacuum apart, using scissors and screwdriver to pry the hair off the brush roll, and get it out of the vacuum. (I’d show you pictures but the husband just did this right before our new vacuum arrived.)  If we don’t do this every week or every 2 weeks, our old vacuum starts smoking! SMOKING!!!

So I’ve been on the hunt for a new vacuum and that is when I fell in love with the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal®! Oh my goodness, this vacuum is a dream come true! I don’t know how we survived all these years without this vacuum! And it can easily be picked up at your local Walmart, so no need to do any special shopping trip to a specialty store!

It came in a bunch of pieces, but don’t let that scare you away! Seriously I had this thing put together in less than 5 minutes. Check out the step by step photos of assembly! It’s almost as easy as looking at the pictures! It’s the easiest assembly I’ve ever had in a vacuum! Just a few snap, snap, and click, clicks and you are done!

It features SuctionSeal and Airspeed technology, to ensure better cleaning. And it has been tested to never lose suction! Not to mention it also has a high efficiency allergen filter and prevents scattering dirt on multi-surface cleaning! That’s right, use the vacuum to go from carpet, to low rug, to tile! It does it all!

And check out how amazing it cleans up that cat and dog hair off my rug in under 4 minutes! (My old vacuum never could get all the pet hair off this rug!)

And when you need to use the handy tools (all of which are housed right on the vacuum) you simply turn the knob and you are ready to use the hose and attachments!

But more than that, it is easy to use! It has a longer cord, so I can do an entire room without having to stop and change outlets! And much to my hearts appeal the chord winds itself up! Seriously, one easy button touch and it sucks it all up! Oh this mama is happy!

In fact, all the functions you need are located as easy petals at the bottom! Want to turn off the brush for bare floor cleaning? Yes, there is a foot petal for that! Want to release the handle? Foot Petal! Turn it on or off? Again Foot Petal! And even the brush roll cleaner is a foot petal!

There is not another vacuum on the market that I have seen that has this ability! Check out how awesome it cleans up the brush roll!

So earlier I mentioned that there is a key to keeping the allergens to a minimal level and that is where our weekly chore chart comes into play.

We have found if you do the “daily chores” each day it helps to keep the house clean and odors at bay. Then you need to vacuum the main living spaces about 2-3 times a week minimum. It really depends on where you live and how messy your family is. But for us about 3 times a week is perfect to keep dust, dander and hair cleaned up.

And the Eureka Brushroll Clean™ with SuctionSeal® has really made this task easy! It is lightweight and super easy for the boys to maneuver!

You can see our system with our weekly chore chart. We print it off and then divide up the chores between the kids so it’s not overwhelming. We can color code for each child with highlighters, and each person gets their own color.
