How to have the Christmas Spirit

This Christmas Spirit message is brought to you as a sponsored event from #LighttheWorld initiative via Mormon.org. We encourage you to join in the #LighttheWorld Event to invite the Christmas Spirit into your home this Holiday Season. Our opinions are our own.

The most common thing I have heard on social media lately is “How do you get into the Christmas Spirit?” Or “I’m just not feeling the Christmas Spirit this year, help!”

With the chaos of life, the disappointment of what is happening in our society, politics, loss of loved ones, it is pretty easy to get caught up in the stress, materialism, depression, and overwhelming burden of holiday traditions you just don’t have the energy to accomplish this year.

With the chaos of life, the disappointment of what is happening in our society, politics, loss of loved ones, it is pretty easy to get caught up in the stress, materialism, depression, and overwhelming burden of holiday traditions you just don’t have the energy to accomplish this year.

But that is not what the Christmas Spirit is all about!

Inviting the Christmas Spirit into our Lives

How to have the Christmas Spirit to make the holiday season meaningful

How do you get into the Christmas Spirit?

What can you do you make the holidays a meaningful experience?

How can you find peace and contentment when the world around you is bombarding you with Sale ads, “I want” lists, or just downright feeling depressed because of loss?

Maybe you are suffering or overwhelmed, discouraged, burdened, lost a loved one, upset about the current political climate, etc. No matter what has you feeling down we have a solution to help you find the Christmas Spirit and make this Holiday season a meaningful time of the year.

In addition to our 5 ways for a meaningful Christmas, we are excited to share how we are inviting the Christmas Spirit into our home this year.

Change one word in your focus….

Instead of ” What can I get..”

say “What can I GIVE”

This December, Mormon.org is launching the #LighttheWorld campaign. Each day in the month of December they have a new teaching of Christ to follow to help bring the Christmas Spirit into your heart and home.

How to have the Christmas Spirit to make the holiday season meaningful

The idea is being a Light in the World. By shining your light, your service, you are able to feel the Christmas Spirit yourself. Because Christmas is about Christ!

There are many different ways you can get involved to feel the Christmas Spirit. Actually, there are 25 ways to get involved!

Every Day in the month of December, they have a new teaching of Christ that you can experience. December 1st, is kicking it all off with a national day of service! Any kind of service. Just serve!

Follow on Mormon.org to find each daily teaching of Christ! Also, visit Mormon.org/downloads to find videos for each day of December to help set the day right.

Plus you can find a Calendar for each day’s teaching PLUS ideas on how you can participate in that day to feel the Christmas Spirit.

How to have the Christmas Spirit to make the holiday season meaningfulYou can do as many days as you want. Pick just one day. Or one day a week, or Mon-Friday, or every day. It doesn’t matter. Do as much or as little as you would like. But you will find yourself feeling the Christmas Spirit more deeply and the holidays will become more meaningful to you and your family.

Here are a few we are doing:

December 3 – Jesus Helped Others to See and So Can You!

We are currently calling around to our local optometry locations, asking if there are local eye glass donation centers. We are going to donate our old glasses. Did you know that glasses can be repurposed for those in need?

Call you local optometry offices and ask if they know of a donation location where you can donate old glasses.

December 14 – Jesus Taught Us To Clothe the Naked and So Can You.

There are many ways you can participate on this day!

Many stores have what they call ANGEL trees. Many times they have ages of kids and what they stand in need of. I like to find a child that is the same age of my own and we go looking for some clothing they need and purchase and donate it.

There was a time in our lives when we were the recipients of such charity. And I can’t tell you how much it meant to us when others donated much-needed boots, gloves, or even just shirts to my children when we were young full-time college students – working part time jobs with little kids and couldn’t make ends meet!

This is also the prime time of the year when kids are beginning to outgrow clothing. Go through all of their clothes, and yours too! Find clothing that doesn’t fit, or that you simply just do not wear! And find a location to donate!

If you have a local Deseret Industries, they take many of the clothing and distribute locally and worldwide to families who have nothing.

Or contact your local church leader and ask if there is a family in need in your congregation.

Many churches this time of year set up collections to get donated to local women’s shelters or other organizations that help those in need.

If your church isn’t hosting an event like this, find one that is. This is the perfect time to cross barriers of religion and just help where the help is needed. In many places I have lived, different denominations combine forces and work together.

December 15 –  Jesus Worshiped Through Song and So Can You!

This is an easy one! We will be sharing meaningful Christmas songs on social media this day. And most likely many other days of December. Because we worship through music. We can feel the Christmas Spirit through song. And it is a powerful force.

My favorites include The Piano Guys O Come o Come Emmanual.

The Piano Guys Collaboration with many others for Angels we Have Heard on High

And Pentatonix Mary, Did You Know?.

As I said before, there are many ways you can get involved to feel the Christmas Spirit this holiday season!
