Back to school is in just a few short weeks for us! Many of our friends have already had their kids start back to school! That means it is time to start collecting the Box Tops in an easy Box Tops for Education Canister to help support our kid’s education!
Box Tops for Education Supports Schools!
We are quite passionate about Box Tops for Education. They have truly blessed our schools. You may not feel like a few box tops here and there will make a difference. But they really do add up!
Every Box Top for Education is worth $.10! So when you have an entire school of parents donating even just 10-20 box tops for education a month, it adds up quite quickly!
Let’s do the math for a second.
If just you donate 20 box tops a month X $.10 per Box Top that is like you are donating $2 without it actually coming out of your pocket!
Now imagine how many kids are in just your child’s classroom alone. Our classrooms are about 30 kids. So each kid donates 20 box tops a month.
Now the school is up to $60 a month ($600/YEAR!) in additional funds to spend on classroom supplies. Just because one classroom donates 20 Box Tops a month per child.
And it doesn’t cost you anything extra out of pocket!
Now imagine if all the classrooms donated just 20 Box Tops a month.
Can you see how dramatically just a few Box Tops from each parent can add up quickly for a school?
I’ve been in schools where the Box Tops for Education has funded new books for the library. New after school programs. New science projects. New school supplies. New Curriculum, and new electronics for learning.
It all makes a difference.
Box Tops for Education makes it easy to give back to schools on your everyday purchases. Simply look for the Box Tops label when you shop General Mills products at Walmart.
Right now with back to school the special 5 for 1 Box Top labels are on select General Mills Products at Walmart.
That means for every box top you clip and send, you earn 4 more! That is a $.50 value just for buying that box of fruit snacks your kids are begging for. Or that box of General Mills Cereal you always get!

To make back to school easier, we do 2 specific things.
A Snack Bin!
The kids are often encouraged to take pre-packaged snacks to school. So when I get home from buying the General Mills products that are doing the 5 for 1 Box Tops for Education program I like to create an easy snack bin.
First I dump out all the boxes. Cause it’s easier when I don’t have the boxes cluttering up my pantry.
Then I organize the snacks into a stackable container. Then place into the pantry.
Now the kids know exactly where they can go to get a snack to take to school with them. Or for when they get home from school.
I like to get the stackable containers because then I can stack another bin on top and fill it with more snacks or easy breakfast options.
Plus with a snack bin, I can see exactly when the snacks are getting low and I need to resupply.
Now I cut out the Box Tops for Education from the boxes. Which leads us to the next thing I prep for back to school.
The Box Tops for Education Canister.
If you are collecting Box Tops for the classroom, you need a place to store them. I like to make a simple Box Tops for Education Canister.
You will need:
- Empty canister – I used an empty hot cocoa canister that I washed out.
- Marker
- School Themed Stickers
- Scissors
Take the lid and cut a slot for the Box Tops to slide through.
Label the canister with BOX TOPS on it.
Let the kids decorate the canister with the back to school stickers.
Place the lid on top.
Now simply insert each Box Top you collect into the Box Tops for Education Canister. Simple as that!
This keeps all the Box Tops collected and it’s easy for the kids to add them as well.
So next time you are out at Walmart, pick up your favorite General Mills Products that are boasting the 5 for 1 Box Tops promotion!
Get home and clip those Box Tops and add them in your Box Tops for Education Canister! Now you have a great head start on your collection of Box Tops for Education for your child’s School!
Just look, with only 3 snack boxes I already have 15 Box tops!
Check this list to make sure your favorite products are participating!

I bought a product with those extra box tops on them, and was pleasantly surprised! I love collecting box tops for our school, and my mom even gives me hers. It does really help the school. I like the canister you made. It's a good idea to have the kids decorate it. I also like to dump out the snacks from the box and put them in a basket in the cupboard. It does make it much easier to see when it's time to buy more.
