What is the first thing women want to know after pregnancy? How quickly can I bounce back after baby? We all know that pregnancy can take a lot out of a woman’s body, especially the teeth! And let me tell you my body really took a beating through this pregnancy after 9 months of constant morning sickness 24/7!
My recovery has been equally as slow as getting baby here. I am now in my 7th month postpartum and I am working to bounce back after baby, and I’ve got some great tips for you!
How to Bounce Back After Baby
My postpartum recovery has not been a pleasant experience. I won’t get into too much detail today, I will save that for another day. But let’s just say I was not in a good place. But just as my body took an intense beating from the pregnancy, it didn’t bounce back after baby was born like it did after my first 3 babies.
It rather took me by surprise how much harder it was for me to bounce back after baby was born. After working with my doctor these last few months we have a list of tips to help you bounce back after baby; even if it goes a little slower than you would like.
Tip 1: Continue to drink lots of water. You still need to be hydrated to heal just as you needed water for a healthy pregnancy. It’s extra important if you are breastfeeding as well. Your body actually needs a little extra to stay hydrated so you can produce milk.
Tip 2: Focus on healthy eating. Obviously, if you aren’t eating healthy your body can’t BE healthy. Make sure you get lean protein, fruits, veggies and healthy fats. Yes FATS! The Healthy Ones. You may be thinkings, “But if I want to be healthy don’t I need to stay away from fat?” Bad fats yes. But GOOD Fats like omega 3’s and omega 6’s actually are crucial for brain function. You know, unless you want to walk around all day with your brain stuck in a dense fog and unable to create coherent sentences. Just a little experience I got to enjoy- I did tell you my postpartum journey was rough right?
Tip 3: Take Daily vitamins and minerals. Just because baby is here doesn’t mean you stop taking multi-vitamins. Your body just went through a tremendous ordeal. It still needs the vitamins and minerals to recover. And extra crucial if you are breastfeeding.
You may ask your doctor to do a blood test to help you better know if you are in need of a specific vitamin regimen. I discovered I was below the normal and healthy level of Vitamin D, and a few others. So that helped us know which vitamin supplements I needed to include.
Tip 4: Slowly increase activity under Doctor’s instructions. As you are able, increase your activity to get back into shape. Never go to the point of pain. But a good stretch is usually a positive thing. My activity progress has been a very slow process due to my slow recovery, but I’m now allowed to go on moderate walks. Obviously making sure to not push to the point of having pain. Each day I gain more endurance and can go longer and farther than before.
Tip 5: Practice good oral hygiene. Not many realize that the health of your teeth also reflects on the health of the rest of your body. But also cause plaque, gingivitis, cavities (which can affect your ability to eat healthy foods) and more! Taking good care of your teeth is a vital part of my “bouncing back after baby” routine.
Good Oral Hygiene includes
- Brush with Colgate® Enamel Health™ Mineral Repair™ Toothpaste Morning and Night
- Floss daily
- Use MouthWash
- Regular Dental Checkup Visits (usually once every 6 months.)
As I mentioned it was a very difficult pregnancy that had me unable to eat very much, I spent much of the pregnancy on IV’s and didn’t gain weight due to how difficult it was until the last few weeks of the pregnancy. That means baby took what she needed from my body. And my teeth really let me know by becoming extra sensitive!
So now that I am working to bounce back after baby, I am incorporating the new Colgate® Enamel Health™ Mineral Repair™ Toothpaste into my oral hygiene routine. It is important to me to strengthen my enamel to improve my teeth sensitivity but also to have strong and healthy teeth for my next Dental Check up.
Brushing with the new Colgate® Enamel Health™ Mineral Repair™ Toothpaste can strengthen weakened enamel by replenishing it with vital minerals and it can absorb essential minerals, such as natural calcium.
Thankfully after continued use Colgate® Enamel Health™ Mineral Repair™ Toothpaste can also help me protect against tooth sensitivity and cavities so I can bounce back to a brilliant smile. Not to mention it has a great taste and leaves my mouth minty fresh!
So are you anxious to bounce back after baby? Be sure to give yourself plenty of time. It’s OK if you don’t bounce back as quickly as you did the last time. Or as quickly as your neighbor/cousin/sister/best friend/etc. Give your body time to recover. Each pregnancy and recovery is different. Be sure to follow these 5 tips to ensure bounce back from baby is effective, so you can keep enjoying those magical baby smiles.

I agree it can be tough to keep up after yourself with you have a baby, it seems like the baby takes all of your energy. But you have to take the time for you… these are some great tips.

It's so important not to forget about us after babies are born. I worked really hard to keep getting out of the house after our twins were born. Even walking to the park, just to get some air and be out in the world.

My gums bled a lot when I was pregnant but thankfully I didn't have much extra sensitivity. Having a baby really does take a lot out of you!

These are all great reminders. It can be so easy to focus less on ourselves after baby is born, especially when it comes to sleep.

After-baby is the most important time to take care of yourself. It is so easy to get caught up taking care of the newborn you forget about mama!
