As a busy Mom of 4, I always have my eyes on the lookout for things that helps to bring our family together for fun, tools to help the kids learn, and resources to help make our home run smoothly.
We recently welcomed the Amazon Echo into our family. Between Alexa Skills and the addition of Amazon Alexa Skill Blueprints, our Echo has turned into a device that helps make our home efficient and even offers ways to have fun together.
There are thousands of amazing skills that you can use to benefit your home and family. My kids love to ask Alexa to tell them a joke, how to spell words, or get definitions to words while doing their homework. They also love to play trivia skills and Jeopardy.
I love that I can listen to audio books or my favorite music collection as I work around the house.
But I especially love the meditation skills and the entire family loves the Eternity Sounds ambiance skill. When life gets a little stressed, I declare time out for the family. Those that are feeling the stress all sit comfortably on the couch and we run a 1-5 minute guided meditation. Or we just listen to Eternity Sounds Ambiance skill. It has truly made a difference for our hormonal teenagers.

How To Use Alexa Skill Blueprints
As much as we love our Alexa Skills, sometimes you just need something more personalized for your family. That is where Alexa Skill Blueprints comes in to play.
With Alexa Skill Blueprints, you can make your own skills completely tailored to your own family, no coding required! There are 20 templates in six categories. If your child has a test coming up they need help studying for, you can create personalized flashcards.

Then you can select which Blueprint skill you’d like to create for your family.
My kids always hate doing chores. And they bicker over who is supposed to do what. To solve this, you can make simple To Do lists for each child for each day.
Now all my kids have to say is “Alexa, What is (insert name) to do list for Monday?” And Alexa will read off their list of chores for that day.
Pair your personalized Alexa Skill Blueprints To Do list with the Nag my kids skill. Now when I want my kids to do their chores, instead of ME asking (which they ignore anyway) I say, “Alexa, Tell those kids to do their chores” and she has a brilliant response that makes my kids laugh. And then they go do their chores.
You can even create fun family trivia games. Like, get to know Mom and Dad games for around the dinner table. Or even a fun birthday trivia fully customized all about the birthday child. See which of the party guests know the birthday child the best.
My girls, personally love the Adventure Story skill Blueprint. We work together to create our own personal story for each child. And then they can say “Alexa open My adventure Story” and they’ll get a personalized story.
To hear a sample Blueprint, just ask, “Alexa, let’s try a Blueprint.”
