How are you meeting your New Year Resolutions of reclaiming your health? January is almost over. I hope you are still on track! Last week, I shared about my love of the new found Weight Watchers Chicken Parmesan recipe. It was quite delicious. Definitely check it out. This week, I wanted to tell you about the Breakfast and snack options. Especially the Weight Watchers Yogurt Parfait!
Creating a healthy Yogurt Parfait
With the Weight Watchers Simple Start app is gives an option for a Yogurt Sundae. This is fat free plain Greek yogurt with strawberries and shredded wheat. It looked so amazing I had to give it a try.
But I did it a little differently. I began with the fat free yogurt and fresh blueberries and sliced strawberries. This version is actually in the snacks of the Simple Start app. Pretty cool right? It can double as a snack or breakfast depending on what you pair with it.
But I didn’t stop there. I added on some crumbled sugar-free shredded wheat. This is a brilliant idea from Weight Watchers! It adds in that desirable crunch. But unlike adding in granola; you aren’t adding extra sugar or fat. Just extra fiber! And we all know that is important when you don’t want to be starving in just an hour.
Oh, but what if you are having a sweet craving? I don’t know why, but mornings and late nights are when I have my worst sugar cravings. Odd for the mornings right? So how do you combat an early morning sweet treat craving? Well the Weight Watchers Simple Start app lets us know that you can have 7 Points Plus values per day of indulgences. My favorite indulges is the dark chocolate! 1 oz dark chocolate is worth 4 Points Plus.
So a great way to curb my sweet treat cravings in the morning is to add in a little Dark chocolate indulgence to my yogurt parfait! I add in 0.5 oz dark chocolate chips to sweeten up my breakfast yogurt parfait. That way I can keep the other half ounce for later in the day; and save my last 3 points plus of indulgences for my late night snack or treat. It’s just what works best for me.
The last two weeks has been such a fun learning experience for me! I have learned so much by test driving the Weight Watchers Simple Start app. It’s been a lot of fun for us too! I have found some amazing recipes that my family loves! And if you remember last week, I mentioned how my sugar cravings, my fatty foods, my soda cravings and my fast food urges have dramatically reduced since eating from the Simple Start app plan.
- 1 cup fat free plain Greek yogurt
- ¼ cup sliced Strawberries
- ¼ cup fresh blueberries
- 12.5 grams sugar free Shredded Wheat
- 0.5 oz Dark chocolate chips (optional) (add 2 points plus for this)
- Place yogurt in cut
- Top with fruit and Shredded Wheat
- Sprinkle with chocolate chips (optional)
What kept me motivated during the last 2 weeks? Honestly; the way I felt. I was so surprised that I could feel such a difference in my energy level in such a short amount of time. I felt better, and was able to think more clear and get more accomplished around our home. Plus the food actually tastes good.
It also helped a lot that the husband is in full support! He loves the dishes I have made the last two weeks. It also helps that he is taking 4 fitness classes from the college this semester and as per class assignments he is to record a food journal and eat healthier. So me using the Simple Start app has really benefited him in his classes too. So that gave me a bit more motivation to stay on track.
If you are thinking about signing up for Simple Start or Weight Watchers plan; I say Go for it! Take advantage of the recipes they offer until you get comfortable calculating your own points. Use the food tracking apps. I was really bad at tracking my food. Which I think that would help me be more accountable and have even more success. So I definitely recommend that.
