Who else has a child that can literally spend hours playing with water and a cup? Yeah, I know there are plenty of you moms out there in serious need of a sensory water table just like me! One of the most frequent things I say each day is “Jade get out of the bathroom!” because she is in there making a mess with the water in the sink! She just wants a sensory water table so badly! Thankfully Step2 helped us out by sending us the Step2 Big Bubble Splash Water Table! And let me tell you this is perfect for anyone with small children or a special needs child!
Sensory Play with a Water Table
If you regularly follow us, you know that Jade has learning disabilities, is a special needs child and has sensory processing disorder. So for her, we like to do a lot of sensory activities to help her cope with the world around her.
Playing with water and bubbles are 2 areas that really do well with her. She literally loves to spend hours in the bathtub or in front of a sink of water. I often call her my little fish because she loves playing with water so much.
So a water table is needed, especially since the weather is warming up! I want her to be able to go outside and spend those hours with water somewhere that I don’t have to worry about cleaning up the spilled water!
Raise your hand if you can relate to being tired of cleaning up spilled/splashed/dumped water in the house?
So I was hunting for a water table…and found the jewel of the Nile! Not did Step2 (a brand I have been in love with since the 12 year old was a baby) create a well designed, sturdy and exciting water table, but it brings the fascination and fun of bubbles along for a ride!
The Step2 Big Bubble Splash Water Table was easy for the husband to put together. (Notice I said the husband? I’m not so good with assembly). In about 10 minutes all the pieces were screwed into place and we were outside filling it up with water. Miss Jade was dancing around in excitement.
It comes with 2 water cups, bubble blower fan (requires 4 AAA batteries not included), 3 bubble wands and 2 bubble trays. It didn’t take long for Miss Jade to be fascinated with the cups and pouring water all over the place. But it was outside. I didn’t have to worry about the stress of clean up. And I relaxed and just let her play and experience the fun of water.
It also features 2 purple bubble plates where you can pour the bubble solution (1 solution bottle included). Add the 3 bubble wands (included) and you have bubble fun! The kids can dip the bubble wand into the bubble solution and blow bubbles to their hearts content.
Or they can place the bubble wand in front of the attached bubble blowing fan! And it will blow the bubbles for them! The fan blows softer than other bubble blowers we have used, so it took a little getting used to. But so far the batteries haven’t died so I guess we are doing great. That is better than the other blowers that I have to replace batteries almost every day we want to use it.
Let me tell you, as soon as the bubbles came out, even the 10 and 12 year old were intrigued and had to come play too! So yeah, you add the magic of bubbles and everyone gets in on the fun!
Tell me I’m not the only one with older kids who get jealous of the younger child’s toys and insists on playing with them too?
The great thing is that this water table is from Step2 which leaves me with confidence of it’s quality. It’s made from sturdy materials so I know it will last us years to come and offer hours of fun for the kids. The Legs are sturdy and the table isn’t wobbly as we play.
The only drawback I can find is not Step2’s fault. Seeing as our kids are technically older than the age suggestion for play. But goodness, I wanted a quality water table. Jade wanted a water table. It is a little short for miss Jade. But I can totally deal with that. Miss Jade still loves to play with it! And it completely fits what we need!
Miss Jade plays for hours with the water table. And even better, because of the quality of Step2, I know it will still be here when Miss Rose gets a little bigger and she will enjoy it for years to come as well!
Do you have a child that could use a sensory water table?
